Mildreds, London’s celebrated plant-based restaurant, has reopened following a two-month renovation, enhancing its historic charm while expanding its dining experience across three beautifully designed floors.

Iconic Vegan Restaurant Mildreds Reopens in Soho After Major Renovation

London’s acclaimed plant-based culinary hotspot, Mildreds, has reopened its doors following a significant renovation. Situated on Lexington Street in the vibrant district of Soho, the Grade II listed building that houses Mildreds underwent a two-month refurbishment aimed at amplifying the dining experience while maintaining its historic charm.

First established in 1988, Mildreds has earned its reputation as a pioneer in vegan and vegetarian cuisine, delighting patrons with inventive dishes that defy the stereotype of bland plant-based food. Over the years, the establishment has attracted a range of high-profile guests, including notable figures such as Sir Paul McCartney, David Walliams, Anne Hathaway, and Pamela Anderson, cementing its status as a go-to destination for both locals and international visitors.

The refurbishment has seen the addition of significant elements designed to enhance the restaurant’s ambiance and functionality. Guests can now enjoy an expanded dining space spread across three floors, each boasting uniquely designed interiors. The newly introduced private dining area on the second floor accommodates up to 18 people, making it an ideal venue for intimate gatherings and special events.

Externally, the townhouse has been transformed with a striking deep blue façade complemented by orange window frames and distinctive signage. Inside, the bar has been reimagined with coral paint and red gloss trims, alongside a modern renaissance-inspired mural. The interior design embraces clashing colours, extensive use of plant decorations, and artworks curated over the past three decades. Varied wallpaper and colour themes further accentuate the new experience offered at each section of the restaurant.

To celebrate the reopening, Mildreds is offering a special treat to visitors—a complimentary cocktail for all diners until the end of October. Sam Anstey, CEO of Mildreds, expressed pride in the reimagined space: “We’ve been trailblazers of plant-based food for decades and our home has always been Soho, the heart of London’s most vibrant district. I am extremely proud to re-open Mildreds Soho and after the refresh of our elegant Grade II listed townhouse site, I look forward to inviting back our loyal customers as well as new guests alike.”

This reinvention has been guided by the vision of Mildreds’ Creative Director, Sarah Wasserman, who continues to lead the charge in culinary innovation. Under her stewardship, the restaurant remains at the forefront of introducing new flavours and concepts to its menu, showcasing the potential of plant-based ingredients.

Since its inception, Mildreds has branched out beyond its original Soho location, with additional restaurants now operating in Covent Garden, Camden Town, King’s Cross, Dalston, and Victoria. Each venue upholds the brand’s commitment to exciting cuisine and warm hospitality, maintaining Mildreds’ strong footprint in the UK’s vegan dining scene.

The unveiling of the revamped Mildreds marks a new chapter for the iconic restaurant as it continues to influence and inspire the plant-based food culture both within the UK and globally.
