A report from User Mag reveals that Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has been inadvertently restricting LGBTQ+ content from being visible on its search and discovery pages. Following a review prompted by User Mag’s inquiries, Meta recognised the mistakes in its content moderation, communicating that it had rectified the issue. However, this incident raises broader concerns about how social media platforms manage content and the biases that may exist within the algorithms used.
These restrictions are not isolated to Instagram; they reflect systemic challenges facing numerous social media platforms regarding content moderation.
