The iconic New Year’s Eve firework display in London will see ticket prices rise dramatically for 2024, with costs soaring to £50 amid enhanced security measures.
London’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks See Significant Ticket Price Hike
London’s renowned New Year’s Eve firework display, a major annual event held in Westminster near iconic landmarks such as the London Eye and Big Ben, is set to return with a considerable increase in ticket prices for 2024. Traditionally attracting large crowds, the event is celebrated with a grand firework show that coincides with Big Ben’s chimes marking the start of the new year.
This year, ticket prices have surged to as much as £50 per head, reflecting an increase of up to 150 per cent compared to the previous year when tickets uniformly cost £20. The pricing for the upcoming event will vary between £20 and £50, depending on the selected viewing location and whether the purchaser resides inside or outside of London. Those living in the capital will benefit from an average discount of £15 per ticket compared to those from outside, according to sources from City Hall.
The price adjustment has been attributed to several factors, including increased expenses in ensuring enhanced security and effective crowd management, as well as industry-wide rising costs. A significant component influencing these changes is Martyn’s Law, introduced in response to the Manchester Arena attack, which mandates stringent security measures for public safety at major events.
A spokesperson for the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, commented on the price increase: “The Mayor is committed to keeping ticket prices for this spectacular event as low as possible, which is why some tickets are available for Londoners at £20 – the same price as last year. Other tickets have increased to enhance security and crowd management of the event, and cover increasing costs seen across the industry. The impending and important introduction of Martyn’s Law, after the horrific Manchester Arena attack, has set out important new security measures at major events to help keep people safe, which the GLA is implementing.”
Tickets for the New Year’s Eve celebration will become available for purchase beginning at midday on Friday, 18th October, exclusively through Ticketmaster. Those who are unable to secure tickets will still have the opportunity to experience the event as it is broadcast live on BBC One, which last year was the most-watched television programme in the UK, drawing over 12 million viewers.
As the capital prepares for its end-of-year festivities with heightened security and a new pricing structure, the event remains one of the most anticipated spectacles to bid farewell to the old year and welcome in the new.
