The first Dutch version of the groundbreaking dating show ‘I Kissed A Girl’ is set to premiere on Videoland, featuring queer women in search of love and connection.
A new local adaptation of the LGBTQ+ dating show “I Kissed A Girl” will soon be lighting up screens in the Netherlands following a green light from RTL for its streaming service, Videoland. Originally debuting in the UK as “I Kissed a Boy,” the series was groundbreaking as the first dating show exclusively featuring gay male contestants. Hosted by Australian singer and television presenter Dannii Minogue, the original UK show has since inspired the female-focused spin-off, capturing the attention of international markets.
The Dutch version, produced by ITV Studios Netherlands, marks the first local iteration of “I Kissed A Girl” under the Videoland banner. The programme is currently in the casting phase, with filming and its premiere slated for next year on the streaming platform. Contestants on the show will be a group of single queer women set in a serene, yet unspecified, exotic locale. The central twist of the series involves each participant being paired with their most compatible match based on discerning criteria, culminating in a first meet-kiss scenario. The series aims to explore whether an initial spark will blossom into deeper connections or if the chemistry remains elusive.
The UK original, distributed by ITV Studios, has seen wide acceptance, having been sold to networks and streaming services across various countries, including Brazil, Denmark, and Hulu in the U.S. The Videoland deal showcases its appeal across diverse global audiences.
Laurens Woldberg, Managing Director of ITV Studios Netherlands, expressed enthusiasm for the format. He highlighted its dual role as both an entertainment medium and a significant cultural platform promoting LGBTQ+ representation on Dutch television. Woldberg noted the importance of presenting diverse narratives of romance and connection, anticipating a meaningful impact among the show’s viewers in the Netherlands.
ITV Studios is actively promoting several of its content offerings at the MIPCOM entertainment market event in Cannes. Among these are “I Kissed a Girl” and other formats such as “Shark! Celebrity Infested Water.” The company has been successful in securing multiple deals for various shows in recent times. For instance, “The Perfect Picture,” a competition format where celebrities demonstrate their photography skills, has been commissioned by Sweden’s public broadcaster SVT, becoming the seventh nation to adopt the French-originated format.
Moreover, ITV has expanded its reach with a Croatian version of “The Voice Kids,” marking a significant milestone as the franchise now spans 50 territories worldwide. These developments highlight ITV Studios’ dynamic presence in global television production and format distribution, underscoring its strategic expansion in various regions.
