Nigella Lawson Stars in Greggs’ First-Ever Christmas Advert
Renowned British cook Nigella Lawson has teamed up with popular high street bakery chain Greggs to star in its debut Christmas advertising campaign. The collaboration sees Lawson, celebrated for her luxurious approach to home cooking, bringing her renowned style to promote Greggs’ festive menu.
Lawson, 64, is featured in a 40-second commercial, presenting a “rapturous riot of flavour” amidst a beige-hued set adorned with an array of festive treats. The spread includes mince pies, sandwiches, pastries, and cups of coffee, providing a stark contrast to the more opulent Christmas dishes, such as spiced and brined turkey, she typically showcases.
In the advert, Lawson, with her signature drawl, eloquently describes the offerings. “Succulent filling, creamy sauce, all wrapped up in the flakiest of flaky pastries, in one or both hands, say hello to the Greggs festive bakes,” she narrates while holding two of the bakery’s bakes – one chicken, sage, onion, and bacon flavoured – and savouring a bite.
The setting of the advert complements the Greggs theme, with the décor featuring a blue and gold bauble dangling from a Christmas tree, tying in with the bakery’s branding. As the advert concludes, Lawson highlights other festive offerings, exclaiming, “Sweet mince pies, aromatic gingerbread lattes, gorgeous Christmas lunch baguettes, the Greggs Christmas menu is back.”
Though recent reports indicated Lawson may have resisted endorsing Greggs’ famed sausage rolls, the bakery swiftly clarified that these claims were untrue. Greggs stated that the partnership focused solely on its Christmas menu and a sausage roll endorsement was never requested. Lawson echoed this sentiment, expressing her enthusiasm for the collaboration: “As a longtime fan of Greggs, and especially their sausage rolls, I’m thrilled to be collaborating with them to celebrate the return of the iconic Christmas menu.”
The festive menu launch is scheduled for November 7, heralding a variety of seasonal treats for Greggs’ customers.
In recent developments, Greggs has experienced a notable boost in sales, attributed in part to its continued expansion across the UK. The chain has inaugurated over 150 outlets this year alone, with a total of approximately 2,560 stores nationwide by the end of September. Its innovative ventures also include launching its first champagne bar in Fenwick’s Newcastle store on October 24, set to remain open until December’s end. Visitors can indulge in drinks paired with popular bakery items, with offerings ranging from a £10 glass of Ca’ di Alte Prosecco to a £75 glass of Louis Roederer Cristal.
Last year, Greggs also introduced a “fine dining” bistro in the same location. This temporary eatery served the signature festive bake with gourmet accompaniments such as duck fat roast potatoes, smoked pancetta, chestnuts, and sprouts, catering to over 8,000 diners in a month.
Nigella Lawson’s endorsement marks a significant milestone for Greggs, intertwining culinary luxury with accessible festive indulgence as the holiday season approaches.
