A survey by myGwork reveals the importance of visible allyship in recruiting Gen Z talent, with key insights into workplace culture and inclusivity ahead of the upcoming WorkFair 2024.
Report Highlights the Critical Role of LGBTQIA Allyship in Attracting Gen Z Talent
A recent survey conducted by myGwork underscores the vital importance of visible allyship and role models in the workplace for recruiting Gen Z talent. This analysis comes ahead of myGwork’s 2024 virtual career fair, WorkFair, scheduled for 13 November, which aims to connect inclusive employers with LGBTQIA job seekers.
The survey reveals that 80% of LGBTQIA Gen Z students and graduates are inclined to accept job offers from companies that have visible LGBTQIA role models and allies in leadership positions. This statistic highlights the emerging trend where authenticity and inclusion play significant roles in employment decisions for the younger workforce. With nearly one-third of students identifying as LGBTQIA, the demand for diverse representation in corporate environments is increasingly pronounced.
However, the report also highlights concerns about workplace culture. It notes that 75% of LGBTQIA job seekers are hesitant to accept positions at firms where they feel unable to express their authentic selves. Moreover, 48% of respondents have either witnessed or experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in educational or professional contexts, illustrating the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQIA community.
The survey underscores corporate allyship as a crucial factor not only in attracting talent but in retaining it. A notable 80% of LGBTQIA Gen Z respondents reported reluctance to join companies that have recently withdrawn support for LGBTQIA issues. This data suggests that organisations must commit to fostering inclusive environments and addressing discriminatory practices to maintain a competitive edge in talent acquisition.
myGwork’s WorkFair 2024 aims to facilitate connections between job seekers and employers committed to inclusivity. Participating companies include major names such as Pfizer, JPMorgan Chase, and Warner Bros. Discovery, all of which are looking to interact with prospective employees in a supportive setting conducive to career advancement.
Adrien and Pierre Gaubert, the co-founders of myGwork, stated, “Companies that embrace authentic inclusivity will gain a competitive edge in recruitment.” Their statement encapsulates the essence of the report: that businesses prioritising diversity and acceptance are more likely to succeed in securing top talent among the new generation of professionals.
As the recruitment season unfolds, this focus on visible allyship and inclusivity may prove decisive for companies seeking to attract and retain the vibrant, diverse talent pool represented by Gen Z.
