Yorkshire’s Abbey Inn claims the crown for the best Sunday roast of 2024, while London’s Blacklock in Canary Wharf shines as the go-to spot for group dining.

The Good Food Guide has recently unveiled its list of the Top 50 Best Sunday Roasts for 2024, showcasing a much-loved culinary tradition across the UK. Celebrated chefs and enthusiastic diners have praised establishments that deliver this quintessentially British meal. The list, sponsored by Koffmann’s Potatoes and Tracklements, seeks to highlight the importance of restaurants, pubs, and cafes that form the backbone of the British dining scene.

Earning the top honour for the UK’s best Sunday roast is The Abbey Inn in Yorkshire, an achievement credited to chef Tommy Banks. However, London holds its own as a prime location for this beloved meal, featuring six notable venues that promise a delectable Sunday roast experience.

In London, Blacklock in Canary Wharf has been distinguished as the best venue for group dining Sunday roasts. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, Blacklock offers a roast experience that attracts both locals and visitors alike.

Another highlight, Lagom at Hackney Church Brew Co, claims the title of the best value Sunday roast. Lagom’s chef Elliot has gained recognition for his “Hang Over Bowls”, a popular choice that often sells out by the afternoon. Regulars at Lagom know to book a month in advance to ensure a seat, with the early slots being the quietest.

Nestled in Stockwell, The Canton Arms boasts an array of accolades, including a GastroPub award and Hardens Best London Pub award. Its Sunday menu features dishes like Rare roast Dexter beef with roasties, green beans, and watercress, and Salt Marsh lamb shoulder served with a potato and olive oil gratin and greens. The venue’s reputation is backed by rave reviews, one describing it as offering “a Rabbit and smoked ham pie to die for.”

In Soho, The Devonshire is known for maintaining a high standard for its roasts, while The Holland in Kensington remains a staple for those seeking a classic roast in an elegant setting. Each location in this list provides a unique take on the traditional Sunday roast, celebrating the diversity and richness of British cuisine.

Finally, The Red Lion & Sun in Highgate Village rounds up London’s representation on the list. The venue’s offerings include roast rib of beef, milk-fed lamb, and Côte de boeuf, each dish highly praised for its quality and flavour. The establishment is favoured for its ambient setting and commendable service, a sentiment echoed by diners.

These London venues not only deliver exceptional roasts but also capture the essence of British culinary heritage, offering both luxury and value options suited for varied tastes and budgets. Whether planning a weekend in the capital or seeking a classic British food experience, these establishments provide a noteworthy selection of Sunday roasts.
